Assistant Manager

Full Time

The Position

We are seeking a capable, self-motivated Assistant Manager to assist with all aspects of our family run operation, which include both livestock and farming duties. This hands-on role requires an individual who can efficiently assist with the management of all the day-to-day operations of multiple pastoral properties as well as mustering, yard work, and general station tasks. In addition to our livestock operations, we have a diverse cropping program, including cereal and fodder crops.

This is a full-time, diverse role that offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in livestock and farm operations, with plenty of room for skill development and career progression as you will be working independently and along side the owners, who have over 45 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle and monitor all livestock, including paddock work, mustering, and general station operations.

  • Ensuring that all livestock are cared for and managed to the highest standards of health and wellbeing.

  • Perform routine station maintenance tasks, including fencing, water infrastructure, and workshop duties.

  • Safely operate and maintain farm machinery such as graders, loaders, tractors, and rigid trucks, in addition to two-wheeled and quad motorbikes.

  • Assist with all cropping operations including planting, cultivating, spraying and harvesting crops (cereal and fodder).

  • Proactively contribute to a safe, efficient, and respectful work environment.

What we’re looking for

  • Minimum of 5 years in a similar role, with expertise in both livestock handling and cropping operations.

  • A proactive, self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.

  • Existing knowledge of cropping operations, including planting, harvesting, and spraying.

  • Competency in working alone with livestock and managing working dogs (preference for applicants who can supply their own).

  • A commitment to animal welfare as a top priority.

  • Ability to operate and maintain machinery, including motorbikes, trucks, engines, and other equipment.

  • Experience in welding and metalwork for maintenance and infrastructure tasks around the property.

  • Familiarity with solar panel water pumping systems and general pipeline maintenance.

  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritising tasks and achieving results under pressure.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, alongside the family as well as contractors during peak periods.

  • Strong attention to detail, as the primary point of contact and responsible for monitoring station activity, ensuring the highest standards are maintained across the properties.

  • Strong communication skills, with a diligent approach to problem-solving and workplace safety and respect.

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience in shearing and crutching.

  • Experience in driving trucks for livestock transport and grain carting.

  • Strong mechanical skills for vehicle and motorbike repairs and maintenance.
